Our mission is to encourage and respect the animal- human bond while anticipating and providing services that insure public health and safety through the proper promotion of animal welfare.  We seek to fulfill our mission through proactive animal-control enforcement, quality education in recognizing and preventing animal cruelty, and the enactment of progressive humane initiatives to relieve animal suffering.  We also provide care and placement for unwanted animals through quality adoptions, licensed rescue, foster programs and transport programs.
The Cherokee County Animal Shelter is a "full service" operation. We take in animals that are brought in by Cherokee County Animal Control officers, animals owned by citizens of Cherokee County and unwanted strays found in Cherokee County. The Cherokee County Animal Shelter also adopts animals out to the public. The adoption fee is $100.00.

Shelter EMERGENCY Wish List
1 - Due to the nature of this case we were not able to take random photos of the dogs prior to this release and we have so much to do to get ready for this event… it is highly unlikely that we will have photos available of nearly 300 animals in just a few days. We apologize.

2- We will have ages, breeds, and general descriptions up on Adopt A as soon as those sync with our database. Trust us when we say we are "working round the clock" to get all of this done by Friday at the latest.

3- None of the puppies are able to be viewed before Saturday and we cannot answer questions online about what is available. Please be patient and wait for it to be uploaded to Adopt A

4- We will not be able to do "meet and greets" with other pets for this event. We're sorry but in a case of this magnitude- it's just not possible. We always accept our pets back to the shelter as a returned adoption.

5- We will be able to refund CASH immediately if a family does not find their perfect match -- BUT credit/debit payments will take 10-14 days for our finance department to mail a refund check. (**There is a processing fee to use all debit/credit cards of an additional 3% charged by We also CAN NOT accept personal checks or American Express) If you are uncertain about adopting, please bring cash to make your $100 pre-payment. **Pre-payments will be required on the day of the event as you enter the adoption building and before you choose your new pet.
Victoria Stilwell, internationally-renowned dog trainer and star of the hit TV show, "It's Me or the Dog." will be joining us for the party.  She and her VSPDT Trainers will be on hand to answer questions about dog behavior.
Cherokee County Animal Shelter would like to announce that it is time for a HAPPILY EVER AFTER CELEBRATION for the dogs in our current emergency situation. Because a home is where their story begins, we are planning the adoption event of a lifetime for Saturday, August 23rd. Registration will begin at 9am in the Senior Center Building, adjacent to the shelter, and pre-payment of a $100 adoption fee will be required. Only one adoption will be allowed per household and chaperones will escort about a dozen individuals/groups through the adoption kennels at a time to match each pet with the family that will provide its home sweet home.

Cherokee County Animal Shelter has also invited local businesses and groups that have supported and donated to the emergency effort during the last month to set up a space and share the day with everyone waiting for their turn to adopt.
Join us for a day of celebration and community as we come together in a "block party" that Cherokee County won't soon forget!

Check our Facebook page ( Cherokee County Animal Shelter ) for MORE up to the minute details and photos throughout the event!
